The M1070 Truck Tractor, built by Oshkosh Truck Company, is an 8 x 8 Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) designed specifically to fill the need for a vehicle to haul the heavy weight of the M1A1 Abrams tank on a M1000 semi-trailer.  The M1070 HET features a 500 HP diesel engine, automatic transmission, 8 wheel drive and front and rear axle steering.  The cab accommodates the tank crew and 2 HET crew members.

This set includes eight weighted road wheels and one un-weighted spare.  The wheels are packaged in a small plastic bag, wrapped in bubble wrap and packed into a strong cardboard box with a label glued to the top and one side.  They are cast using a light cream colored resin with no bubbles or other blemishes in my review sample.  Each wheel has a small casting block at the bottom where the weighted tire bulge is.  Just to clarify, weighted wheels means the tires appears as though they are bearing a great weight, which you would expect when hauling the heavy bulk of the M1A1 Abrams tank.  Two of the wheels and the spare had the casting blocks already snapped off in the box but fortunately the wheels themselves weren’t damaged.  The blocks must be carefully removed so as not to inadvertently damage the tread blocks at the bulged base of the tires.  These resin tires are a direct replacement for the rubber tires in the Hobby Boss kit.  Be sure to install the wheels with the bulge on the bottom, level with ground surface where they will make contact.  The castings are exquisite, faithfully capturing the deep tread pattern, hub bolts and even the Michelin logo and 16:00-R20 tire size nomenclature embossed in the sidewalls.

This set is a great replacement for the kit rubber tires and adds a more realistic weighted bulge at the bottom for a more realistic, under load appearance.  ET Model has given us another great addition to the complete line of detail upgrades for the Hobby Boss M1070 and M1000 HET kit and it is highly recommended.
