Decals from the book “Emblems of the Luftwaffe” Vol 1

This sheet contains decals for 13 reconnaissance aircraft aircraft from Vol 1 of the Embelms of the Luftwaffe recently published by Luftfahrtverlag-Start. We reviewed the book here.

Luftfahrtverlag-Start occasionally do limited run decal sheets of aircraft, and submarines, from their publications. Usually the print run is 500 copies and once they’re out of stock, that’s it. The decal sheet is printed by Cartograph.

The decal sheet uses crosses and balkenkreuz from the kit you’re using and adds to it the items you will need to model the aircraft. The instructions show you where the emblems are to be placed and also gives you the the colours used in the paint scheme of the aircraft. The camouflage schemes are all the standard ones. There is also a small black and white image of the emblem on the aircraft in question taken from the book. Theatre bands, such as yellow for Russia, are shown in the image given of the aircraft. The instructions tell you which variant of the various types you need to use and they will work on any manufacturer’s kit.

The decals cover:

  • Ju 88 A-4, A-5, D-1 and D-2. 1.(F)/33
  • Ju 88 D-1, D-5, A-53.(F)/121
  • Ju 88 D-1, D-5, A-42.(F)/122
  • Ju 88 A-5, D-1, D-23.(F)/123
  • Ju 88 D-1, D-5 5./Erg.FAGr.
  • Ju 88 D-1, D-5 Wekusta 1
  • Bf 109G-8 2./NAGr.2
  • Bf 109 E-4 4.(H)/12
  • Hs 126 B-01 5.(H)/41
  • Fw 190 A-4 2./NAGr.13
  • Fw 189 A-3 2.(H)/41
  • Fi 156 C-5 1.(H)/32
  • Fi 156 2.(H)/21

The quality of the decals themselves is very good, as you would expect from Cartograph. The whites look good and the other colours are vibrant.

The decal sheet is highly recommended and will allow you to build some unique reconnaissance aircraft that you won’t see anywhere else.

You can order the decals by emailing Benedicte at “benedicte-urbanke at”
